The Russian-language press is large and, since 2022, geographically split. The list below includes state-run outlets, commercial titles, and independent newsrooms that now publish from outside the country, so readers can compare them directly.

Коммерсантъ (Kommersant), Ведомости (Vedomosti) and РБК (RBC) are the principal business dailies. Известия, Российская газета, Аргументы и факты, Комсомольская правда and Московский комсомолец are the large general-interest papers, and Независимая газета and Новая газета the more independent end of the domestic field.

State news agencies and broadcasters carry much of the traffic: ТАСС, РИА Новости, Интерфакс, Вести and RT на русском.

Online portals Лента, Газета.Ru and Новости Mail reach very large audiences, while Meduza, The Moscow Times and NV report on Russia from abroad.

Regional and city outlets such as ФОНТАНКА.ру in St Petersburg, E1.RU in Yekaterinburg and URA.RU in the Urals cover local affairs closely.

Sport runs through Спорт-Экспресс, Матч ТВ, Чемпионат and Sports.ru, and technology through 3DNews, iXBT, CNews and the community site Хабр.
