Ireland Newspapers

Irish news punches well above the size of the country, and the list below covers the national dailies, the local weeklies that still dominate outside Dublin, and the sport and farming press that are distinctively Irish concerns.

At national level, The Irish Times and the Irish Independent are the two papers of record, joined by the Cork-based Irish Examiner, which gives the south its own national voice. RTÉ is the public broadcaster and the most-read news site in the country. The tabloid market runs through the Irish Mirror, The Irish Sun and The Herald, while Business Post and The Currency handle business and finance.

The local press remains genuinely local. Titles such as The Anglo-Celt, The Clare Champion, Connacht Tribune, Donegal Democrat, The Kerryman, Kerry’s Eye, Kilkenny People and Wexford People are weeklies covering a single county, and for court reports, GAA results and council news they have no national substitute.

Two specialisms deserve their own mention. Gaelic games are covered in depth by GAA.ie and Hogan Stand alongside general sport sites, and agriculture supports a serious trade press in Agriland and the Irish Farmers Journal.

Everything here publishes in English. Northern Ireland titles are not listed on this page — they appear under the United Kingdom. Most sites are free; the main exceptions are The Irish Times, Business Post and The Currency, which are subscriber-funded.
