Chile Newspapers

Chile’s press is concentrated in Santiago but stretches the length of the country, and the list below mixes the established dailies, broadcast newsrooms, the digital natives that have reshaped Chilean journalism since the 2000s, and regional papers from Iquique to Temuco.

Two groups have long dominated print. El Mercurio, one of the oldest Spanish-language papers still publishing, anchors one of them and runs the widely read Emol portal; La Tercera anchors the other. La Cuarta covers the popular end of the market and Diario Financiero the business one.

Broadcast newsrooms are among the most-visited sources online: BioBioChile, radio Cooperativa, 24 Horas, T13, CHV Noticias and CNN Chile all publish continuously rather than on a print cycle.

Chile also sustains an unusually strong independent and investigative sector. CIPER Chile is the best known, working on long-running accountability reporting, alongside El Mostrador, El Desconcierto, Interferencia, Ex-Ante and El Líbero, which between them span a wide political range.

Outside the capital, regional dailies remain the main local record: El Sur in Concepción, La Estrella de Valparaíso, El Austral in Temuco, El Longino in the north and El Rancagüino in the central valley.

All titles publish in Spanish. Most are free to read, with metered or subscriber access mainly on El Mercurio, La Tercera and Diario Financiero.
