India has the largest newspaper market in the world, and the single most important thing about the list below is that it is multilingual. English is only one part of it.

In English, The Times of India, The Hindu, Hindustan Times, The Indian Express and The Telegraph are the major dailies, with Mint, Business Standard and The Economic Times covering business, and The Print, The Wire, Scroll.in and The Quint forming a substantial digital-native sector.

The Hindi press is larger still by circulation: Dainik Bhaskar, Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala, Navbharat Times, Hindustan Dainik, Punjab Kesari and Patrika.

Every major language has its own leading titles. Bengali readers have Anandabazar Patrika and Bartaman; Tamil, Daily Thanthi, Dinamalar and Dinamani; Telugu, Eenadu and Sakshi; Malayalam, Malayala Manorama and Mathrubhumi; Marathi, Lokmat, Loksatta and Sakal; Gujarati, Gujarat Samachar and Sandesh; Kannada, Prajavani and Udayavani; Odia, Sambad; and Urdu, Inquilab and The Siasat Daily.

Television drives much of the online audience through NDTV, India Today, Aaj Tak, News18, Times Now and the regional TV9 and Asianet channels. Cricket has its own press in ESPNcricinfo, Cricbuzz and Sportstar.
